Villa Podernovo is a world apart. A charming and peaceful place to truly relax and rediscover a more human pace of life, away from the city. The villa is nestled in the unspoiled wilderness of a natural reserve, ideally located close to Siena and to San Galgano Abbey with the 'sword in the rock', along the Via Francigena, the medieval pilgrimage route to Rome from the North. It is an ideal base for exploring the delights of Tuscany. The Maremma seaside is 60 km away. We want to remind you that peace and magic still exist. At dawn you might happen to see a deer grazing in our meadows, an adventurous fox passing through the farmyard, a woodpecker, a jay or a buzzard gliding from one oak to the other. Villa Podernovo can be rented exclusively and is ideal for large families with children, groups or workshops. The villa can accommodate up to 18 people, self-catering or B&B for an additional fee. The villa consists of two buildings just 20 meters from each other, the apartment building and the communal building. The apartment building hosts all guest accommodations while the communal building hosts the group kitchen (with the exclusive villa rental the group kitchen is included and the apartment food facilities are for hot/cold beverages and light snacks only), the meals room, the 120 sq.mt. patio communicating with the above and with garden view, and the 80 sq.mt. first-floor hall. The first-floor hall is ideal for workshops. It has independent entrance and heating. Our private chlorine-free 11x6x190 swimming pool has sea-like water and is especially suited for children and people with allergies. The pool is surrounded by plenty of tended green areas with garden furnishings for outdoor eating and relaxation and is usually open May 1st-October 31st, weather permitting. The exclusive use of the villa includes all holiday apartments,weekly bed/bath/kitchen linen change, group kitchen (including its equipment and crockery), and a basic household starter sample (detergents, rubbish bags) is initially provided. Please note that with the exclusive villa reservation the main kitchen is the large one in the second building. Hot/cold food facilities in the apartments are meant for snack purposes only. Also included with exclusive villa reservation is use of the dining room, the porch, the first floor hall, the swimming pool, the garden and garden furnishings, the outdoor covered parking area, all apartment and communal areas, heating (except the hall heating during worshops) and all other utilities. Free broadband Wi-Fi is available in the shared areas and also in CHAMPAGNE and BLU apartments. Please note that a 600N router is at Reception, not in the apartments. The quality of Wi-Fi in the two apartments therefore depends on the quality of the hardware used. The exclusive use of the villa does not include the cost of final cleaning, the cost of first-floor hall heating during worshops, or any additionally incurred fees which are not specified above. Additional cleaning service, additional bed/bath/kitchen linen changes, group dinners (with a minimum of 15 adults), fireplace wood and pool towels are all available for an additional fee. Please note that the person in charge at the villa lives in an idependent apartment and is available for help and local info. Podernovo lies just outside the town of Monticiano. It offers all necessary services including a bank, pharmacy, supermarket, restaurant, a wine bar, and bus service to Siena and Grosseto. A short distance away we find the hot springs of Petriolo still in their natural state and walking towards the woods, the banks of the river Merse with crystal clear water. The panorama consists mainly of typical Mediterranean flora: maritime pines, live-oak trees, and chestnut trees. The farmhouse consists of two stone buildings: S. Maria the main building which holds the apartments and an old barn where you find the meeting room, the large professional kitchen and the indoor eating space. Next to them is the traditional wood oven, the thrashing ground with pine trees and meadows in the background. Below the property fields is the horse training ring where the Sienese train their horses for the Palio. Podernovo di Monticiano is situated 35 km south-west of Siena in the Natural Park of the Farma & Merse Rivers. The estate stands in a quiet and secluded position only five minutes away on foot from the village of Monticiano. From Podernovo you can visit easily lovely medieval villages such as Colle Val Elsa (30 min by car), S.Gimignano and Volterra (40 min), Massa Marittima with its beautiful Duomo(30 min), Murlo and its gorgeous Etruscan museum (30 min), the Val D'Orcia and Montalcino, the region of the best red wines and the Brunello.
