We are on Palace Ave. a short walk to the famous Plaza and Canyon Road and all historical sites! Most large rental homes are a 20-30 minute drive from the Plaza and parking is difficult to find. Why drive when you can walk! Palace Ave. got its name from Spanish times around 1610 and the fact that the Palace of the Governors is on the Plaza and on Palace Ave. Casa Bonita is a 8 - 10 minute walk to everything you came to Santa Fe for. This vacation rental house makes Santa Fe the perfect vacation spot!
Casa Bonita is ideally located. Whatever you choose to do; you can stroll to museums, galleries, churches, restaurants, go shopping, or the grocery store. You can visit with the Native Americans on Palace Ave. in front of the Palace of the Governors on the Plaza. It is about a 10 minute walk. They sell their hand crafted jewelry and art work daily. The Plaza is where the wagon trains arrived on the Santa Fe Trail for 70 years from Kansas! Lots of history!
In the winter, ski 1/2 hour drive up the mountain at Ski Santa Fe, or go sledding in the park. Ski Santa Fe has 77 runs and is open !
After a day of skiing come home and relax in the big bubbling hot tub with foot massage jets before you gather for drinks in the huge great room.
You can save $200 -$1000 per day by cooking in our beautiful huge granite kitchen rather than staying at a hotel or eating at restaurants. You can also bring in a chef from the Santa Fe Cooking School for meals.
You can walk to The Compound , El Farol , Geronimo's, The Shed and Julia restaurants in around 10 minutes or less! Julia is at the La Posada Hotel on Palace Ave just down the street from Casa Bonita!
Casa Bonita has 5 bedrooms. There are 2 king bedrooms, 2 Queen bedrooms and a down stairs bedroom with 2 double beds and an en suite bathroom. There is also a queen sofa sleeper and a large couch in the great room. We can comfortable sleep 15 people. There are 4 bathrooms in Casa Bonita, two of which are en suite. We are on one of the most famous streets in Santa Fe, Palace Ave which was named in 1610! A short walk to everything! We are a 6 - 7 minute walk from the La Posada Hotel and their famous restaurant, Julia! La Posada is also on Palace Ave. If you are attending a wedding at La Posada stay at Casa Bonita and save!
Fun things to do while in Santa Fe: Casa Bonita is on the road to the ski basin for the skiers and snow boarders in the winter. Santa Fe Ski Basin is 20 - 30 minutes from Casa Bonita and has a 77 runs! The Ski Basin is open in mid November. Why spend money to fly to Utah or Colorado if you can drive to Santa Fe and save!
Other activities you can take advantage of in the summer include hiking, rock climbing, golfing, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, river rafting and kayaking on the Rio Grande, horseback riding, shopping, restaurants, museums, and bar hoping. We love to go to the Bandelier National Cliff Dwellings site which is 45 minutes from Santa Fe. There are over a hundred cliff dwellings at Bandelier dating back a thousand years. You can climb ladders to a number of the cliff dwellings! We normally take a picnic basket with us and have lunch there after walking through the park.
The annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque in October is a bucket list experience! You arrive just before the sunrise and watch over 100 hot air balloons take off! It is amazing!
You can also drive to Taos and go skiing in the winter or ride in a hot air balloon into the Gorge, land on the river and take off in the summer! Another bucket list must do but make a reservation!
We also enjoy taking the Cumbres and Tolec Scenic Train from Chama to Osier and back in the summer. It is an old classic steam train from the mining and logging days. We recommend lunch at Osier and then a return on the train to Chama. The lunch at Osier is great! It is a day long trip and a lot of fun. The views are stunning. We have seen large herds of Elk, Deer and Bears while riding the train. Unlike the Silverton, Colorado train you are up high in the Rockies with great views!
Restaurants: We have the best location in Santa Fe and are a 8-10 minute walk to the famous Plaza and Canyon Road. There are over 100 art galleries on Canyon Road. If you come out the front door of Casa Bonita and turn left you are on El Alamo Street , walk a half block and you are at the Santa Fe River. You can walk across the bridge to the Compound Restaurant for dinner. It takes about 10 minutes. If you continue past the Compound you are on Canyon Road and a 5 minute walk to El Farol Restaurant. These are two of our favorite Santa Fe Restaurants. El Farol is the oldest restaurant in Santa Fe. It was founded in the 1800's. The southwestern food is some of the best I have ever had!
There are also lots of galleries on Canyon Road which are fun to stroll through.
If you come out the front door and go down Palace Ave. you are a 8-10 minute walk to the Shed Restaurant. They have great lunches and dinners. This is one of our favorite restaurants in Santa Fe! If you want to eat at the shed, make a reservation! It is a popular restaurant! They open at 11 AM for lunch and close at 3 PM. They open for dinner at 5 PM . Make a reservation!
If you continue down Palace Ave. you enter the Famous Plaza which has lots of art galleries and several great restaurants. For breakfast we suggest the Plaza Cafe. It has a great menu. There are over 300 restaurants in Santa Fe.
Wineries & Casinos: There are numerous Wineries and Casinos near Santa Fe. As you leave Santa Fe and head north towards Taos there are a number of Casinos & wineries/ tasting rooms along the highway. One of the big casinos is Buffalo Thunder. It has Las Vegas style gambling and shows!
You can spend a fun day just stopping at the tasting rooms and trying their wines and enjoying the Casinos. The Casinos have full Las Vegas style gambling and shows!
In the summer there is the world famous Santa Fe Opera. It is a 15 minute drive from Casa Bonita. The Operas are some of the best in the country!
