Located one block from the Pamlico River and steeped in family history, this beautiful 1902 Victorian home provides gracious accommodations in the heart of historic downtown Washington. A short walk leads to a sailboat marina, specialty shops and galleries, a variety of restaurants, and a wonderful café for coffee and dessert. The Moss House is also at the beginning of the city's self-guided historic walking tour.The Moss House features a full breakfast highlighted by traditional Southern favorites. These entrées, accented by freshly ground coffee, seasonal fruit, and homemade muffins, will prepare you for a full day, whether your agenda calls for business or leisure pursuits. The Moss House Bed and Breakfast features four comfortable guest rooms with private baths, as well as a casually appointed living room and dining room for our guests' use and enjoyment. Family heirlooms, antiques and collectables lend the interior accommodations an atmosphere of ease and grace; life around The Moss House is relaxed and contemporary, with a flair for the Caribbean. Most of the rooms have the original carved wooden mantles surrounding colorfully tiled hearths, and the fireplaces, though no longer functional, recall the dedication to craftsmanship that was common when the house was built a century ago. You'll find custom soaps, shampoo, and lotion, as well as extra pillows and ample lighting in each room, while flowers and greenery from the garden breathe a healthful note into common areas throughout the house. Guests wishing to take in some fresh air will find that the veranda and adjacent garden afford a relaxing retreat, as does the back porch furnished with white wicker seating and a one-of-a-kind tropical fish stained glass window and mermaid wall hanging. While The Moss House provides a wonderful escape from day-to-day concerns, we also provide Direct TV service, telephone, copy and fax machine, and modem-based Internet access for guests who want to stay in touch with the outside world.
