Chateau de la Trousse was originally constructed in the 16th century and significantly modified in the mid 19th century. Held by by the same family since the modification, it has recently been divided into exclusive private residences. Rich in history, Chateau de la Trousse was used as a WWI Allied Army Hospital and is one of the very few chateau that survived the fighting. The owners of the Chateau erected a monument at the foot of the poplar-lined drive in gratitude to the United States and those who fought in these decisive battles. The Chateau sits high on 40 idyllic, gently rolling acres in the Champagne district yet is only 45 minutes by car from Paris and CDG airport and 20 minutes by RER train from the heart of Paris. A short drive takes you to the ancient city of Meaux with its spectacular 12th century cathedral where you will find many restaurants and cafes. While there make sure to try some Brie de Meaux! An RER (direct train) runs into Paris from Meaux every 20 minutes. The nearby village of Lizy sur Ourcq only a few minutes away also has train service to Paris, a weekly market, shopping for local produce and groceries, and charming country restaurants on the banks of the Marne. If you are still hungry for more shopping, visit Val de Europe. The largest mall in Europe, it is only a 15 minute drive from our home which features an "outlet village" where you will find genuine bargains at outlets such as Kenzo, Eve de Lorme, Celine, Burberry, Bodur and many more. For fun, visit EuroDisney, also only a 15 minute drive. Located behind massive, remote controlled iron gates, our home features three levels of chic Parisian living. Luxury accouterments include our own sauna, whirlpool and en suite baths with towel warmers. There is a half bath on the first floor. The gourmet kitchen has top of the line appliances. There is a cozy living area with flat screen TV on the second floor and wifi throughout the apartment. Decorated with an eclectic mix of French antiques an modern pieces by designers such as Phillip Starke, the ambiance is very French. Enjoy the massive antique stone fireplace, the sweeping, handcrafted stone Parisian staircase, the original exposed 16th century beams and charming views of both the rolling countryside and the cour de honor from our front or back terrace. All owners enjoy access to the entire property as well as the public areas of the main Cheateau including a large professional kitchen (if you want to have a party), beautiful terraces, laundry, entry hall, ornate sitting rooms and private chapel (where the family still hears mass once a month). Wander the 40 acres around both the immaculately landscaped formal gardens and the more rustic gardens. Or spend time in the orchard and kitchen gardens which are for the use of owners and their guests. Lounge by the pool in the summer. Play a match of tennis on our courts. Watch the sun set behind the Chateau lake and into the Marne Valley, a truly spectacular sight. In the winter, enjoy the view of the gorgeous rolling terrain of Champagne dusted with snow. Take a drive to visit the may Champagne caves close by or take the train into Paris and visit museums and sights without crowds and lines. In December, take in magical sight of the Champs Elysee and the Eiffel Tower lit for the Holidays (along, of course, with incomparable Parisian shopping!). The on site caretaker (speaks English) will open the apartment, freshen it and provide towels and pressed luxury linens for you upon your arrival. Upon departure you will need to leave 80 euro cash for the maid. This property is not suitable for children under the age of 18 (no exceptions). Read less
