This beautiful 1889 Victorian house is in a perfect location for visitors, in the heart of San Francisco, a few blocks walk to everything. This stunning home features a huge living room with a piano, hardwood floors, 12' ceilings with plaster moldings, wood wainscoting, original doors and transoms, antique chandeliers, more than two thousand books, and antique furniture throughout including a working crank Victrola. The kitchen boasts Blue Italian Spode dishes and antique crystal, gold-rimmed stemware, a stainless steel double sink, a new Miele induction range and dishwasher, a new Bosch fridge, plus a marble bistro breakfast table. There is a new stacked Maytag high-end washer and dryer, high-speed Wi-Fi and a huge Sony HD Smart TV, which is hidden and slides up in front of an oil painting in our living room as needed. All beds have high-end organic mattresses, and the bedding and brand-new towels are from Coyuchi, a local luxury organic cotton brand used in hotels. The master bedroom has a California King bed, exposed brick, an antique triple armoire, and private bathroom. There is a second bathroom that is all marble and filled with antiques, crystal, and historic wallpaper you can only see here or at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The second bedroom has an antique French double bed, loveseat, and small desk, crystal chandelier, and trompe l'oeil sky with clouds on the ceiling. The third bedroom has a twin antique French bed and a loft that can fit a second twin air mattress as needed. Total to sleep comfortably is six guests. There are tons of children's toys and books and bedrails can be added to the already low-profile twin bed. The next-door neighbor, upstairs neighbors, and friends of the owner will take great care of you during your stay. Plus, the owner's regular housekeeper or babysitter can be available during your visit at their usual rates. Parking for one vehicle is available in the owners garage. Your hosts can also provide recommendations on the best restaurants, natural beauty, historic architecture, and unique activities in the city and beyond. They are always happy to make new friends in the home exchange community! Located in the Alamo Square Historic District and the Hayes Valley neighborhood. Hayes Valley is famous for several blocks of fashionable, Michelin-starred restaurants, over-the-top gourmet coffee, little parks, and chic shops beginning just three short blocks from the house. It has bustling outdoor spaces and culture. Two blocks in the other direction is Alamo Square Park, the gorgeous park on a hill with huge views, tennis courts, new playgrounds, and old redwoods, surrounded by Victorian mansions, including the famous "Painted Ladies" of "Postcard Row," the houses you see pictures of all over the world and that are the setting for several TV shows. There are at least three other parks and numerous community gardens within a few blocks. A short walk of about eight blocks will bring you to the Civic Center area, which includes the San Francisco Ballet, War Memorial Opera House, Symphony, as well as the Asian Art Museum, City Arts & Lectures, SFJazz Center, the gorgeous City Hall rotunda, and the main Public Library. The home is six blocks from the Zen Center and ten blocks to Japantown. Major bus lines run right by the house, as do double-decker tourist bus lines. There is also a Ford Go Bike public bike station directly across the street. You can get Uber or Lyft cars faster than you can get out the front door. It's the perfect central location, about a ten-minute bike or car ride to Golden Gate Park's major museums (or one short bus ride), and a ten minute drive in the other direction will bring you to major museums in SOMA. You can walk to some of the best restaurants and best shopping in the city (if you wear sensible shoes, and most people do in San Francisco). Some other famous neighborhoods, like North Beach or China Town, are a 10-15 minute drive. Also, in 15 minutes you can get to two different world-class beaches--Ocean Beach on the Pacific Ocean, and Crissy Field on the bay with a view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Ten minutes away is the historic Presidio, which is filled with green spaces and panoramic views, as well as the Disney Museum and other attractions. The home is the entire second-floor lower flat (not the ground floor--the garage is the ground floor) and there are long-term tenants in the third-floor upstairs flat, so the only stairs are the brick entry stairs, with railing, you see in the exterior photo. This is a strictly non-smoking and drug-free property, inside and outside the house. Read less
